These are NOT the same as the English Bulldog; The Olde English Bulldogge a.k.a. Victorian Bulldogge is a re-creation of the classic olde bulldog of the 1700-1800’s, back then when bull-baiting was legal the old bulldogs were bigger, more stout and healthier. After the ban of bull-baiting, the olde bulldog became sized down and mixed with Pugs, bringing about the flat face and curly tails. It took a couple hundred years, but now you see what they turned the modern bulldog into, a health ridden dog that averages a low life span and cannot handle any basic activities that a family pet should be able to. The English Bulldogs have many health problems and require artificial insemination and c-section birthing, which makes them cost much more.
Our Old English Bulldogs (Victorian Bulldogges) are a re-creation of the classic Olde Bulldogge. We did not invent this breed, it was re-established and heavily introduced breed in the 1970’s by a few different breeders. David Leavitt and Greg Hermes were two well known breeders that re-invented the Old English Bulldog. Both mastered their creations, Leavitt’s Olde English Bulldogge bloodlines being smaller and part of our Sumo lines and Hermes Old English Bulldog bloodlines being larger like our Hermes boy Cain. We have tried hard to have the best of both olde english bulldogge lines in our program. Both Hermes and Leavitt were looking to re-create the olde bulldogge of the past for the better health, more mobility and longevity in life while leaving behind the vicious temperament needed to fight bulls. Many are mis-infomed thinking that true Olde English Bulldogge Breeders must only stick with Leavitt lines or Hermes lines, this is flat out un-true. An Olde English Bulldogge can vary in lines and also vary in look, but as long as it is within standard and consistent with its Pedigree then it is a true Olde English Bulldogge in our opinion. We follow all ethics and standards of the CKC (Continental Kennel Club,) IOEBA (International Olde English Bulldogge Association,) and the NBA (National Bulldog Association.) All our dogs are CKC or IOEBA papered and can be dual registered with the NBA (National Bulldog Association,) CKC (Continental Kennel Club,) IOEBA (International Olde English Bulldogge Association) and other reputable registries (excluding AKC.)
When we first wanted an English Bulldog we were shocked to see how problematic of a breed they were. I personally spoke to many English Bulldog breeders and was never given the truth about the english bulldogs until one breeder told me all the nightmare stories that come with the English bulldog breed, most importantly the short life-span. I appreciated the honesty, but right after my talk with him I decided the English Bulldog breed wasn’t right for me. After further research I came across the Olde English Bulldogges a.k.a. Victorian Bulldogges, and was quite impressed by the breed. I searched and searched for local Olde English Bulldogge Breeders, but could not find many in California, yet alone the San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange County, Temecula or Riverside area. The closest Old English Bulldog Breeder I could find of quality was hundreds of miles away in Central California. After our first breeding we were hooked, not only on the breed but the joy we get from providing quality Olde English Bulldogge pups to so many homes world-wide. Our goal is to breed the best Olde English Bulldogge Puppies money can buy and more importantly to make it a positive and joyful experience, which is very difficult to have when dealing with a breeder. Our Old English Bulldogge (Victorian Bulldogge) bloodlines started with our main Hermes boy and our Nunley ranch girl. From there we integrated many great lines on our property, some superb boys from Wally of Sumo and What a mug bulldogs and some Victorian Bulldogge lines. Although we have many color potentials, we do not breed our Olde English Bulldogs for color, we breed for bullyness, head size, big chests and over all bone structure desired in old english bulldogges.
